How to Setup TikTok
How many of you use social media for marketing/professional purposes? What platforms are you using for this?
Tiktok is one of the fastest growing social media platforms, with over a 40% increase in users from 2021- 2022. Still dominated heavily by 30 and under groups, but has seen an enormous jump in users above 30 from 2021-2022… making up 37% of all users on Tiktok in 2022.
So what does this all mean?
This means that Tiktok poses one of the best opportunities for organic growth, especially in a relationship based industry like real estate. So let’s talk about exactly how to do tiktok the right way.
Let’s start with setting up your profile. * see if they want to get their phones out?* Make sure you have a nice, updated professional photo/logo. That’s easy. What I really want to focus on is your bio. Tiktok works like Google, it ranks profiles based on keywords when a user is searching on the platform. That means it is super important to have relevant keywords in your name and bio, making you more likely to show up in searches, especially when you start posting content. “Austin Real Estate Agent” as an example. Just think about what people search for when they’re looking for you.
Next, let’s talk about the algorithm. There are a few key elements to remember:
- The first 3 seconds are crucial. You want to get your average watch time per view as high as possible, in order to maximize your reach. The best way to do this is through an engaging hook – I’ll talk more about that in a second
- Saves, Shares, comments are really important. A great way to increase comments is to leave with a call to action. Ask a question, say something controversial – anything that would facilitate conversation in your comments. Be careful with this though, because the internet can be ruthless
Lastly, let’s talk about content. Make sure you’re shooting all of your video vertically. Using your iphone will work fantastic, but I would invest in a light and microphone that can adapt to your phone. As I mentioned, the first 3 seconds are critical. An engaging hook + overlay is a great way to capture attention and keep someone interested in your video. I can share with you a full list of 20, but things like “3 reasons why you should move to Austin” is an example of a hook. A good time to get creative – even checking out other big pages and seeing what they use. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel here.
In terms of content and what to post, a good framework to operate off of is the 3 C’s:
- Clarity – Can people clearly see who you are, what you do, where, and why. Is it obvious in your bio, your website, etc.
- Consistency – Are you on the platform consistently? Are you posting at the most effective times? Are you actively engaging, seeking out new platforms? Are you using the same fonts, colors, logos? Are they consistent across all of your platforms?
- Creativity – Are you pushing the boundaries of our industry? Are you creating engaging content for your audience? When it comes to creativity, is your content…entertaining? Educating? Inspiring? Make sure there’s a purpose with every single thing that you do online.
Keep your video length under 30 seconds. The shorter the better ,but make sure you give enough to provide genuine value.
Another important part is the editing. Tiktok consumers have very short attention spans, and it’s important that you don’t waste a single second. No awkward points of silence, added cuts and pop ups will keep the user engaged. Don’t waste a single second.
